Welcome to the first blog post on our site. From here on, we will try to post one each week. We live in the Covid years. People died from it, societies are torn apart, people feel lonely and there is a growing need for spiritual help in our lives. As soon as this period comes to an end Churches will run full again probably. Contrast to this is the way we endure this period. We pray for relief of this burden but we are forgetting why the world is in this situation in the first place…
Man has become indifferent to God.
Do you know the story of the prophet Jonah who was sent by God to the city of Nineveh to tell the people there that the wrath of God was incurred because of the city’s excessive wickedness that was going on there? Long story short, Jonah eventually came to Nineveh and told the people the bad news. As soon as the king of Nineveh got wind of what Jonah was saying, he took action. He himself put on mourning clothes and sat in the ashes. All the people had to fast, including the cattle. In this way one had to repent to God while praying to God for mercy. That grace was received from God. The rest of this story is of less importance at this point.
In Ezekiel 28 we can read what God thinks of the king of Tyrus and the people of Sidom. For evil has been found in them. That evil stems from the world trade that one conducts and everything that has to do with it. The punishment of God is also remarkable. God punishes them through epidemics. Furthermore, it is written that a deadly army will march through the streets …
Taking these two stories into account, we might expect that in this time of world trade, the destruction of God’s creation and the Covid epidemic all around us, some Christian would arise and say something about this. Nothing could be further from the truth. They prefer to see the epidemic over as soon as possible so that people can continue with what they were doing. In short, they want to get back on a plane as soon as possible in order to melt the plastic mass in the world’s oceans, or words to the same effect.
Incidentally, this indifference is a sign of the end times as described in the Bible. Even in Noah’s time, the people continued to eat, drink, and marry (become one flesh) until it was too late.
Whether we are in the end times, I can’t tell you about it, simply because I don’t know.
However, I do notice the indifference if I want to tell people something about rebirth and the working of the Holy Spirit that goes with it. A phenomenon that is pretty much the core of belief in God the Father is being pushed aside as if it were an empty lemonade can lying on the sidewalk. We don’t bend down for that anymore and we kick it aside.
I wonder why people still read the Bible at all, especially those who pride themselves on it …
